Much has happened at 4, Easthorpe Street since Bloomin’ Dementia was launched with some high profile help from Nottingham Forest footballers Chris Cohen and Danny Fox back in November 2017.
The Ruddington based charity was formed with the aim of giving a better quality of life to dementia sufferers and their families. As well as all the outreach services they offer, their office (“The Hub”) is where anyone can just pop in for a warm welcome, information and advice – with a special lounge area decked out in a 1960s style where it’s hoped people with dementia may feel a little more at home.
Trustee Andy Hallam says: “We have had tremendous support from many areas of the Greater Nottingham community and here in the village, too. Ruddington Parish Council, The Victoria Tavern, Red Lion and The White Horse – as well as the local Co-op and Thomas James Estate Agents – have all been involved in raising funds for us.“
Bloomin’ Dementia has also joined forces with Sue Martin at The Cottage Hotel to help spend some of the money awarded for social get-togethers and entertainment from its partnerships with Nottingham businesses Intu and LexixNexis. Those funds are also being spent on a raft of other social activities and trips for the Nottinghamshire community outside Ruddington. These include a ‘Care for Carers’ Afternoon Tea visit to Eden Hall (for those caring for someone with dementia), an afternoon at the Musicals, a trip to Crich Tramway Village, a three day stay at Jockhedge Farmhouse in Skegness and a summer excursion to Chatsworth House.
Andy adds: “We are currently in the process of developing a unique relationship with Nottingham Forest and Chairman Nick Randall QC and Media Director Jonny Owen have made exciting pledges to BD for future fundraising and further work within their community programmes. Great Northern Inns, Nottingham, who are also a great supporter of the charity through their leisure outlets, are also working with BD to raise further funds though specials events that include evenings with Sir Ian Botham and Forest Legend John Robertson.”
